Next to Impossible

The Ultimate Classic Rock website has ranked Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers and Tom Petty's solo albums from [in their opinion] "worst to first."

I think it's really a personal call.  I guess the purest way to create such a list would be to base it on actual album sales.  But I don't have a SoundScan account and the information isn't readily available.  The next best way would to go to the RIAA site and look up each album and see how many times each album has gone platinum.  That would get you in the ball park, but it's very time consuming and not very up to date.  I do have most of that information in the discography section of this website.

But as a fan, it's next to impossible to rank Tom Petty's catalog.  It could change week to week or minute to minute.  But here's my list based on what I find myself listening to the most.

  1. Damn The Torpedoes
  2. You're Gonna Get It
  3. Long After Dark
  4. Echo
  5. Hypnotic Eye
  6. Let Me Up (I've Had Enough)
  7. Hard Promises
  8. Southern Accents
  9. She's The One
  10. Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers
  11. Wildflowers
  12. Full Moon Fever
  13. Mojo
  14. Into The Great Wide Open
  15. Highway Companion
  16. The Last DJ
